SOXS DAY

1 July 2025, Garching near Munich

Son Of X-Shooter

SOXS (Son Of X-Shooter) is a medium resolution high-efficiency wide band spectrograph for the ESO New-Technology-Telescope (NTT) on La Silla, which features a spectral resolution of 3500 to 6500 (depending on wavelength) with a simultaneous wavelength coverage in the 350-2000nm interval. SOXS has been installed on the NTT in March 2025 and undergoes its first two commissioning runs in May and June 2025. It is expected that SOXS will be offered to the community with the Call for Proposals (CfP) in September 2025 for the Period starting in May 2026. SOXS will be operated for five years by the SOXS consortium, which has been rewarded 180 nights per year of Guaranteed Observing Time (GTO). As SOXS is an instrument focussed on observations of transients, the GTO is not blocking certain objects, but certain science. The blocking criteria will be reviewed by ESO's OPC and will be announced before the first CfP.

The SOXS day

ESO will host a SOXS day on July 1, 2025, to present the SOXS instrument and its science opportunitites to the community. During this day, we will have talks on the instrument capabilites and the operations model, the science opportunities and the GTO programme, and the policies that will govern the operations of SOXS. Further, there will be time for questions and discussions. The meeting will be held at the ESO HQ in Garching in hybrid mode. We would like potential participants to register at this link. The agenda of the meeting can be found below.

This meeting will be held in the ESO Headquarters in Garching Forschungszentrum. Remote participation will be enabled.
