VISTA ziet Messier 78
Deze detailrijke opname van het stervormingsgebied M78, in het sterrenbeeld Orion, is gemaakt met de VISTA-infraroodsurveytelescoop van de ESO-sterrenwacht op Paranal in Chili. Behalve de blauwe gebieden van weerkaatst licht van de hete jonge sterren toont de foto ook sporen van donker stof en de rode ‘jets’ van sterren-in-wording.
