ESO and ambassadors gather in Vitacura, November 2024
As Chile implements its new lighting regulation, the European Observatory’s management and ambassadors from its Member States gathered in the country to discuss the importance of protecting the dark skies.
The meeting took place on the 26th of November, 2024, at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) offices in Vitacura, Santiago (Chile). The spectacular dark skies of the country are key to the astronomical observations by ESO and other institutions. Many projects, such as ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope, the biggest optical telescope in the world, currently under construction, will need these skies to remain as dark as possible.
