This engineering rendering, produced by Spanish company IDOM, shows the more intricate design details of the first ELT prefocal station. The structure's three main functions include correcting the telescope’s alignment, keeping the segmented M1 mirror working as one and distributing light to the telescope's instruments. IDOM is in charge of designing and manufacturing the two prefocal stations of the ELT.
