An intriguing star cluster complex in NGC1316 The HII-region SH2 in the merger remnant NGC1316 is the only site of recent star formation in this big galaxy. HST images reveal its nature as a complex of young star clusters. We observed SH2 with VIMOS/IFU. The emission line ratios indicate a high metallicity, ruling out the hypothesis of an infalling dwarf galaxy. The progenitor of SH2 probably was an isolated giant molecular cloud. SH2 demonstrates how globular clusters can form out of star burst epochs.
